MEXC Review: September 2026
MEXC by the numbers: its place in the rankings, real fees from the exchange's API, availability from Russia, reserves and the regulator's claims as of 15 September 2026. User reviews from Trustpilot, Otzovik, Google Play and Smart-Lab are covered in a separate article.

In brief: MEXC is an international crypto exchange founded in 2018; according to CoinMarketCap as of 15 September 2026 it ranks 9th among spot venues with 24-hour volume of $1.66 billion. The main plus is a broad listing with zero maker fee on spot; the main minus is the lack of a license in the operator's jurisdiction (Seychelles FSA, 26 May 2026) and its reputation for account freezes under risk control. The exchange is accessible from Russia: registration and P2P with rubles work, but since 1 September 2026, Federal Law No. 282-FZ of 4 August 2026 has been in force, and no foreign platform is on the Bank of Russia registers. What users write about the exchange is in a separate article.

Does MEXC work in Russia in September 2026
Russia is not on the list of restricted jurisdictions: according to the restrictions overview of 2 September 2026, MEXC blocks access for North Korea, Cuba, Sudan, Iran, mainland China, Singapore, the US, the UK, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan and Canada. Registration by email or phone is available, and the interface is in Russian.
- Verification. The MEXC help center describes two levels: basic KYC allows withdrawals of up to 80 BTC per day, advanced (with facial recognition) up to 200 BTC. The limit for an unverified account is not stated in the help center; check it in your own account.
- Rubles. There is no direct top-up with a Russian bank card; the flow goes through P2P, as confirmed by the profinvestment review (updated 29 December 2025) and our comparison of crypto exchanges working in Russia of 14 September 2026. The set of banks and payment methods in P2P changes, so check it before a deal.
- Russian law. The obligation for residents to work only through intermediaries on the Bank of Russia registers takes effect on 1 July 2027; the RUB 300,000 annual limit per intermediary for non-qualified investors exists so far only as a draft Bank of Russia ordinance of 11 August 2026. Details are in our piece on the new law and the Bank of Russia registers.
MEXC fees: spot, futures, deposits and withdrawals
The rates were taken from the exchange's public API on 15 September 2026, which is more reliable than the reviews in search results, where the futures taker fee appears as both 0.01% and 0.02%.
| Operation | Maker | Taker |
|---|---|---|
| Spot, BTC/USDT (base tier) | 0% | 0.05% |
| USDT-M perpetual futures, BTC_USDT | 0.01% | 0.04% |
| Crypto deposit | 0%, the sender pays the network fee | — |
| Crypto withdrawal | fixed exchange rate per network | — |
| P2P | 0% for both sides | — |
On some spot pairs the zero fee applies to the taker as well; in August 2026 there were 1,317 such pairs. Holders of the MX token get a discount when paying fees in MX. The exchange notes that maker rates "may differ depending on platform promotions and region", so the actual rate should be checked in your trade history. The cost of P2P sits not in the fee but in the spread to the market.
Products
Spot is MEXC's main argument: 1,584 assets and fast listings (206 new tokens in August 2026), the flip side being many low-liquidity coins. There are USDT-M perpetual futures with leverage of up to 500x on selected contracts, copy trading, Earn and staking, Launchpad and the IPO Express format, more than 7,000 tokenized stocks and ETFs (August 2026 highlights), AI tools and the MEXC Global Card with cashback, launched on 31 August 2026.
MEXC futures allow leverage of up to 500x on selected contracts: a 0.2% price move against the position eats the initial margin, and bonus vouchers and airdrops nudge users to open positions larger than their deposit. Combined with complaints about slippage, liquidation is more likely than it looks on paper. How to calculate it is in Leverage and liquidation.
Security: reserves, audit and the regulator's claims
Proof of Reserves. MEXC publishes monthly reserve reports with an external audit by Hacken. In the August 2026 report (14 August 2026) the reserve ratio for BTC was 288% against 4,282.20 BTC in user balances, for USDT 115%, for USDC 114%, for ETH 113%. Verification is based on a Merkle tree.
License status. On 26 May 2026 the Seychelles Financial Services Authority (FSA) stated that MX Global Ltd (IBC No. 238047), the company operating mexc.com, "does not hold and has never been granted a license or authorization to provide virtual asset services" in the country, in breach of the Virtual Asset Service Providers Act 2024. The regulator warned that it would not be able to help recover funds.
The freeze incident. In July 2025 MEXC blocked about $3.1 million in USDT in the account of a trader known as White Whale under risk control. On 31 October 2025 MEXC's chief strategy officer Cecilia Xue published an apology and announced that the funds had been released, and on 1 November the exchange, responding to rumors of financial trouble, stated that it was "in excellent financial health" (Bits.media). At the same time a $100 million protection fund was announced; in the August 2026 report the balance of the Guardian Fund is stated as $101 million.
Pros and cons
Pros: a broad listing and fast launches of new tokens; zero maker fee and 1,317 fee-free pairs; monthly Proof of Reserves audited by Hacken; availability from Russia; basic operations without full verification.
Cons: the operator works without a VASP license in its own jurisdiction (Seychelles FSA, 26 May 2026); mass complaints about risk control freezes; the company's Trustpilot rating is hidden by the platform (more in the user reviews); many low-liquidity tokens, meaning higher slippage and delisting risk; leverage of up to 500x and aggressive promo mechanics.
